Mercan Fleischgroßhandels GmbH has taken over the production operations of Libreco Food Service and LiCo Heimtiernahrung, thereby sending a clear signal for growth and regional development.
The previous production site in Gelsenkirchen-Buer will be relocated and consolidated at a new, more efficient facility. As part of the expansion, Mercan plans to create new jobs and strategically expand its production workforce.
The investment underlines the company’s long-term commitment to the region and to the sustainable development of its production structures.
At the new site, a particular focus will be placed on expanding döner production. In doing so, Mercan strengthens its position in the processed meat products segment and responds to increasing demand in this market. The expanded capacities provide the foundation for continued growth in the coming years.
The acquisition and integration of the production operations form part of Mercan Fleischgroßhandels GmbH’s ongoing growth strategy. The objective is to create additional value in the region, leverage operational synergies, and sustainably expand the product portfolio.

After the management filed for insolvency on September 5, 2024 at the Essen Local Court, a structured M&A process was initiated under the direction of insolvency administrator Georg Kreplin and attorney Andreas Plitzko of KKN Rechtsanwälte PartG mbB.
